‘Absolutely Slashing!…’

Hi everyone!

I am on another fantastic blog tour hosted by Anne Carter of Random Things Blog Tours. Today I will be reviewing Slash by Hunter Shea.

What’s it about?

Five years after Ashley King survived the infamous Resort Massacre, she’s found hanging in her basement by her fiancé, Todd Matthews. She left behind clues as to what really happened that night, clues that may reveal the identity of the killer the press has called The Wraith.

With the help of his friends, Todd goes back to the crumbling Hayden Resort, a death-tinged ruin in the Catskills Mountains. What they find is a haunted history that’s been lying in wait for a fresh set of victims. The Wraith is back, and he’s nothing what they expected.

Review

I am a huge thriller fan and was incredibly excited to read this one! I read it during October too so it only added to the spooky vibes! This book is definitely a scary thriller with a lot of horror scenes in it too. This is the first book by Shea I had read and overall, I really enjoyed it!

There are a lot of elements mixed into this incredibly creative novel. We have the typical horror tropes mixed in with thrilling tension, which is also fitted with 80s nostalgia. It’s a very suspenseful novel which grips the reader, eventually turning into a fast-paced page turning novel that you can’t put down!

The atmosphere of the book was eerie enough, but added themes of isolation, heartbreak, and homage to slasher films of the past, this book really had it all. It also had a solid cast of characters that really brought the story to life. I feel as if I connected with the characters and that helped the story progress into a plot-driven mystery. I think because Shea spent a lot of time doing character development early on in the story, the plot built itself around them, playing with the reader’s mind. I really enjoyed this style of writing and it made the book more memorable.

I will say, the imagery was very clear in the writing, sometimes more than it needed to be (in a good way!). It’s very slasher-esque and so you can expect the grisly gore seeping from the pages!

Recommendation

Overall, a very intense and thrilling read. Perfect for fans of this genre, and thriller fans wanting to explore some darker themes! A gripping novel of suspense and slashings!
