‘Some secrets won’t stay buried…’

Good afternoon everyone,

I have a thrilling and exciting book for you today. Map of the Dead by Murray Bailey is a crime novel like no other. Secrets, lies, and strange messages… what could it all mean?

When Alex MacLure’s friend and colleague dies he is determined to carry on her research. He finds she has left him a coded message and, as he tries to make sense of it all, he discovers she was murdered. And now the murderer needs to silence him.

With only a few clues and a mysterious object Alex follows a trail from London to Cairo. He must crack the code and expose a shocking and inconceivable truth before the secret is buried for ever.

Official blurb for Map of the Dead

From the very beginning, this book engages the reader, gripping them from the first page. The characters are easy to connect with and the mystery just mounts and mounts. The pace of the novel gives time for tension to build but at the same time, doesn’t drag. Bailey has carefully weaved a web of suspense for this imaginative and adventurous novel about a time stuck in history…

The concept of the story was fascinating. Parts of it reminded me of National Treasure and The DaVinci Code but with a twist. (Side note, this story would be a great Hollywood blockbuster film). A fundamental amount of research went into this novel and although the events are fictitious, the story holds a lot of weight in order to be factually correct and believable. Bailey’s knowledge and creativity bring this book to life, giving history a chance to come alive.

In addition to the historical aspect (of which I am a huge fan) the book is predominantly a thriller with a heart-racing plot and a murder to solve. However, this is no typical whodunnit… Bailey taking the classic murder trope twists is on its head. The novel certainly kept me guessing to the point where I couldn’t trust anyone. With time against them, can Alex figure out the mystery in time?

From history lovers and crime buffs, this book is for you. I would also say to those who want something thrilling with a twist, you need to read this book. I was swept up in the atmosphere of this novel and I can’t wait to see what Bailey comes up with next! A tense and thrilling novel with plenty of imagination and twists!

Stay tuned for my review of the book’s sequel, and an exclusive author interview with the author!

Also, a brand new book is being released soon, so keep an eye out!!
