After a super long day at uni, I AM RIDICULOUSLY excited to share with you my review of Isabella May’s BRAND-NEW book, Costa del Churros
The rain in Spain doesn’t mainly fall on the plain…
Brits abroad Belinda, Julia, Laura and Georgina need more than the sweetness of churros with chocolate dipping sauce to save them from their unsavoury states of affairs.
Cue Carmen Maria Abril de la Fuente Ferrera, the town’s flamboyant flamenco teacher! But can she really be the answer to their prayers?
One thing’s for sure: the Costa del Sol will never be the same again.
I have been a part of Isabella’s journey as an author ever since I signed up for her book, Oh! What A Pavlova blog tour. Ever since then, I have deliciously delved into Isabella’s scrumptious way of writing, and enjoyed every page (or should I say, slice?!) Her follow up, The Cocktail Bar, had the charm of her first novel, mixed in with some shaken and stirred story lines, which made it a really fun read! When I was asked to be on the blog tour for her new book, Costa del Churros, I could barely contain my excitement! I wasn’t in the least bit sceptical as to whether Isabella could live up to her other novels- I had every faith that I would love her new story as much as the last, but I was wrong- I LOVED IT EVEN MORE!
Like all her novels, the theme of the book is food, food, and food! BUT not in a cliché way – this vibrantly flavourful novel tickles your taste buds, gets your chocolatey senses tingling, and gives a whole new meaning to ‘a sweet treat’!
I love the other intertwined essences of this novel- the heat and passion of this novel, all appetizingly unfolding under the Spanish sun gave an atmosphere that was right up my street! This story not only combines typical Spanish traditions and culture with some flirtatious characters, but also, like all of Isabella’s novels, has some truth hidden beneath this chic romance- with friendship, anything is possible, but you have to love yourself too…
I enjoy novels with 1st person narrators, but sometimes they can get a bit irritating- that’s why I got on well with this book- there are multiple perspectives! Each POV gives the reader an opportunity to decide how they feel about them without a biased narrator. It also kept the flow of the book going with many plot lines unravelling into one!
I am sure you will fall in love under the Spanish sun and will eat churros dipped in delectable chocolate for breakfast! I remember eating fresh churros with chocolate on a Spanish exchange I did in school, and this book was quite nostalgic in the way that the landscape, atmosphere, and culture was described! This book is the PERFECT hot holiday read- brilliant for women’s fiction, chick-lit, romance, and fictional travel writing!
Isabelle, you’ve done it again! OMG I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOUR NEXT BOOK!
