Hey everyone! Hope you’re all well! Today I will be reviewing Look For Me by Lisa Gardner.
In #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner’s latest twisty thrill ride, Detective D. D. Warren and Find Her‘s Flora Dane return in a race against the clock to either save a young girl’s life . . . or bring her to justice.
The home of a family of five is now a crime scene: four of them savagely murdered, one—a sixteen-year-old girl—missing. Was she lucky to have escaped? Or is her absence evidence of something sinister? Detective D. D. Warren is on the case—but so is survivor-turned-avenger Flora Dane. Seeking different types of justice, they must make sense of the clues left behind by a young woman who, whether as victim or suspect, is silently pleading, Look for me.
Official Blurb for Look For Me
I was very excited to receive Look For Me in the post. I had heard a lot about Lisa Gardner and really wanted to check out one of her books. This novel is part of a series of books with returning characters D. D. Warren and Flora Dane. I do think this story works as a stand-alone novel, however if you’re like me and like a lot of backstory and character development, I think I would advise you to read a few of the previous books in the series in order to get the overall picture.
The beginning of this story doesn’t hold back from the shock factor. Immediately the reader is plunged straight into a horrific crime scene developing. From then on, the tension doesn’t stop. You can feel the strain on the characters and the unforgiving build-up of clues and events taking place.
This novel is also full of tangents and sub-plots which give light relief to the tension, and also distorts the reader’s detective work leaving you vulnerable and on-edge. I was constantly second guessing myself and going back to clues in my head. Sometimes the story trailed off every now and again but I believe this was a plot device in order to further question the character’s intentions and twist facts even more.
I am stunned that this is the 9th book in the series. Although I haven’t read any previous books (although I will now!) I was stunned as to how fresh and exciting the plot was. I anticipated there would be clichés or repetitive / predictable themes, however I was pleasantly surprised by this invigorative story!
To sum up, I would say this book is a tense crime thriller which makes you second guess your instincts…
This disturbingly grim tale is not for the faint-hearted (for example, there’s a lot of gore just in the first few pages). Gardner has done it again with Look For Me, a thrilling and rejuvenated novel with classic crime elements mixed with contemporary and gripping themes. I would say fans of murder mysteries with a twist would devour this story. Fanatics of thrillers would find Look For Me as something to sink their teeth into as well!
