“A ‘Lot’ of blood…”

Hello! I hope you’re all in the Halloween mood!

It’s time for the second book in my KING COUNTDOWN! And tadaaaaa…. Today’s review is Stephen King’s ‘‘Salem’s Lot’.

What’s it about?

Thousands of miles away from the small township of ‘Salem’s Lot, two terrified people, a man and a boy, still share the secrets of those clapboard houses and tree-lined streets. They must return to ‘Salem’s Lot for a final confrontation with the unspeakable evil that lives on in the town.

I read this book last year when I was re-kindling my love of King. After revisiting this book I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it.

Vampires have been around as long as well, vampires. They’ve been predatory, theatrical, horrifying, humorous and even the subject of teenage fantasy (Thanks Stephenie Meyer!). But as we all know, Stephen King doesn’t regurgitate same old, same old… instead, he has created a thrilling masterpiece rejuvenating the horror genre.

King writes what he knows; a lot of his books include protagonists who are authors. Ben Mears, a writer, returns to ‘Salem’s Lot when strange things start to happen. At first, King plays tricks with the reader- is it real? Is it part of your imagination? But when things can’t be explained, things start to get a bit creepy.

The setting is perfect; a pastoral town seemingly quaint then all of a sudden, secrets start to emerge and the town is not what it seems. Additionally, the characters create the tension. I was so stressed out reading this book (in a good way) and got through it quite quickly. The plot is fast paced and you get right into the action from page one.

King fans, old and new, are guaranteed to like this book. More towards the horror side, this book is bound to leave your heart-racing! Perfectly spooky for Halloween!
